Community invited to Reopening & Open House for Madison Elementary
Mount Vernon School District invites the community to celebrate the grand re-opening of Madison Elementary with a Ribbon Cutting and Open House on Tuesday, September 17th, 5-7 pm. Madison is the second new elementary school built with funds approved by voters in February 2016.
The school is located at 907 E Fir St. in the same location as the previous Madison building.
“We're very excited to celebrate the opening of the new Madison Elementary in time for the start of the 2019-20 school year,” said Superintendent Carl Bruner. “Thanks to our community's support, Madison students and staff will benefit from a facility that provides ample space that will support high quality teaching and learning for many years to come."
The 78,000sf three-level design provides permanent classroom space for 550 students. It maximizes site efficiency, keeps operating costs low and provides a secure, technology-equipped learning environment.
Building highlights include a "learning stair" feature at the main entry allowing for amphitheater-like seating for small group instruction or performance type activities, and security cameras, access control and lockdown features as part of a safety and security emphasis. The design takes advantage of a sloping site to accommodate a compact and efficient 3-level building. The 100% LED lighting and a high level of insulation makes for a very energy efficient building. The building was designed by TCF Architecture and Lydig Construction was the contractor for this project.
Additional bond funded projects include, replacing the Mount Vernon High School Agriculture Building with a new building, renovating Mount Vernon High School’s Fine Arts building, which has begun, as well as renovating MVHS Old Main, and expanding LaVenture Middle School.
