Mount Vernon Riverbend Area Evacuation
Out of an abundance of caution, the City of Mount Vernon is asking businesses and residents located near Riverbend Road, west of Interstate 5 (Freeway Drive, Stewart Road area) to evacuate to the east side of Interstate 5.
The evacuation is expected to remain in place while Dike District 17 and the Army Corps of Engineers have time to assess a bulge in the Riverbend Dike in this area.
Those evacuating are asked to use East Stewart Road and College Way to move east. Freeway Drive (to the south of the area) remains closed.
One option for shelter is a Red Cross location at Bethany Covenant Church (1318 S. 18th Street).
