Mount Vernon Parks Code Updated
Park users in the city of Mount Vernon will soon be able to walk, play and exercise in a smoke-free environment. An update to the rules for the City’s parks and trails was unanimously passed by City Council last week.
In addition to a ban on smoking and vaping—a rule which aligns the City parks with a county-wide ordinance—the new parks code amendment also clarifies park hours, more clearly defines park usage, and bans the disposal of household and commercial trash in parks.
“We want to continue to provide a safe and healthy environment within our parks, for all of our park users,” Mount Vernon Parks Director Jennifer Berner explained. “These updates serve to clarify expectations, and ultimately they help to ensure that we can provide an enjoyable place for our residents and visitors to experience.”
Mount Vernon park hours are now defined as 6 a.m. to 10 p.m. during the months of April to October; and 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. November through March.
More information, including the updated Parks ordinance, will soon be available on the City website, at www.mountvernonwa.gov/129/Municipal-Code
