BC WORLD MUSIC COLLECTIVE McIntyre Hall Presents
Saturday, October 12  7:30pm

If there ever was a World Music super-group, this would be it. The BC World Music Collective brings together musicians from Cuba, Mexico, Brazil, Africa, and London, who now make their home in the beautiful province of BC. The collective is comprised of Adonis Puentes, Celso Machado, Tonye Aganaba, Kurai Blessing, JP Carter, Locarno (Tom Landa, Pedro Mota, Robin Layne, Liam MacDonald, Nick La Riviere, Kalissa Landa, Ronnie Swirl) and First Nations (Stō:lo/St’át’imc/Nlaka’pamux Territories) rapper, Ostwelve.

“These 13 musicians, all with their own careers in world music, brought energy and new life into musical traditions from around the world. The collaboration, musicianship and enthusiasm on stage was exciting...” ~ Dierdre Atkinson (Hornby Music Festival)

This concert is made possible in part by a grant from the Washington State Arts Commission and the National Endowment for the Arts

MEFISTOFELE

Pacific Northwest Opera

Fridays, November 1 & 8 7:30pm

Sundays, November 3 & 10 3:00pm

Mefistofele is Arrigo Boito’s take on Goethe’s tale of Faust, the aging scholar who bargains his soul to the Devil to regain youth and passion. Boito is known mostly for the brilliant libretti he wrote for Verdi’s final two operas, Otello and Falstaff, but this, his only opera, was the one that launched superstar bass Samuel Ramey. Evan Boyer will make his PNO debut as Mefistofele. The cast includes PNO stars Corinna Quilliam, previously seen as Brunnhilde, Turandot and Aida, and Stephen Rumph who was Hoffmann in Tales of Hoffmann. James Brown, who has conducted PNO’s La Boheme, Carmen and Tales of Hoffmann, returns to the podium for Mefistofele. Sung in Italian with English subtitles.
