Mount Vernon Takes Preventative Flood Protection Measures
As flood level predictions continue to fluctuate, City of Mount Vernon crews are taking precautionary action and beginning to deploy flood wall stop logs on the south end of the Riverwalk.
The flood wall, which protects the Downtown Mount Vernon core, has several gaps to allow pedestrian access to the Riverwalk. During a potential flood event, those gaps are sealed off by City staff (using these stop logs) to ensure protection of the downtown area.
While current predictions do not indicate a major flood event, crews are diligently monitoring reports and standing by to determine whether further deployment of flood protection measures will be necessary.
