An innovative Skagit Valley College and Skagit Valley Family YMCA partnership explores learning opportunities and increased engagement
Skagit Valley College and the Skagit Valley Family YMCA are pleased to announce a partnership that will support members of the Skagit community as they explore future collaborations.
SVC President Tom Keegan and Skagit Valley Family YMCA CEO Dean Snider signed an agreement that formalizes their work over the last year to identify ways in which the College and YMCA can share facilities and programs to provide additional learning opportunities for students and staff, and enhanced programming for the community.
Ideas being considered in the partnership include providing internships for SVC students; college credit for participation in YMCA aquatic programs; and, employment and volunteer opportunities for SVC students and graduates consistent with their academic pursuits.
“We are fortunate to live and work in a community that embraces civic-minded leadership, collaboration, service, and engagement,” said SVC President Dr. Tom Keegan. “Our partnership with the YMCA reflects the College’s Core Themes of Equity in Access, Achievement, and Community and is an excellent example of two organizations with similar missions working together to make our community stronger. I’ve enjoyed working with Dean and am excited about the possibilities created by this partnership.”
“Our Y team is excited to partner with Skagit Valley College! The Y's Cause is 'Building the Foundations of Community' and that is done best through relationships and collaborations. Our shared focus on equity and community provides countless platforms from which to grow our collaborative programming. As a newer Skagit resident, I have appreciated Tom's leadership, at the college and in the community, and look forward to working together in strengthening the foundations of our Skagit community,” said Skagit Valley Family YMCA CEO, Dean Snider.
