Mount Vernon Chamber of Commerce Cancels the 2020 Riverwalk Summer Concert Series

The summertime Riverwalk Summer Concert Series has been canceled because of concerns about public health due to the coronavirus and in keeping with the health department’s guidance regarding large gatherings, said Mount Vernon Chamber of Commerce CEO Andy Mayer.

The popular concert series typically takes place mid-July through August at Skagit Riverwalk Park in downtown Mount Vernon and features a variety of well-known local bands.

“We decided hosting the Riverwalk Summer Concert Series wouldn’t be prudent under the county health department’s recent directive that recommended canceling or postponing large scale events through the summer,” Mayer said. “We look forward to bring the concert series back in 2021.”

While a portion of the chamber’s work includes hosting community events and operating the Visitor Information Center, it has a larger role in the community providing advocacy, training and networking for small businesses, Mayer said.

Recently, the chamber has been working to assist members as they navigate doing business, or in some cases suspending business, as directed by Gov. Inslee’s Stay Home Stay Healthy order. This has been true for the chamber itself as its employees have been working remotely since mid-March.

“In the coming weeks we will be working to share the governor’s guidelines on opening safely with our members,” Mayer said. “We look forward to businesses being open in a safe manner that continues to protect the health of our community.”
