Skagit Valley College Athletic Department announces Male and Female Athletes of the Year
The Skagit Valley College Athletic Department is pleased to announce the 2019-2020 Male and Female Athletes of the Year. This annual award goes beyond more than athletic performance, as it recognizes academic success, community involvement, work ethic, commitment, dedication and many other qualities that are representative of Cardinals Athletics.
Co-Male Athletes of the Year
- Jaime Vasquez was a two-year starter for the men’s soccer team. He was a two-year captain and led by example both on the field and off. He always had a smile on his face and was a motivator to his teammates. Jaime was named to the NWAC North-East Region All-Star team as a Defender both his freshman and sophomore years. He will continue his academic career next year at the UW.
- Willie Thomas III led the 2019-20 men’s basketball team to a historic 22-0 start. His 2019-20 honors include North Region Defensive Player of the Year, First Team All North Region and selection to the Clackamas Holiday All-Tournament Team. Willie will continue his athletic and academic career at the NCAA D2 level at Alaska Fairbanks. Willie is a hard-working, tough player who plays with a big heart. He assisted with a variety of youth camps and other student life events throughout the year.
Female Athlete of the Year
- Morgan Jones was a two-year starter on the women’s soccer team. She started in 34 of 35 games played in her career and led the team in scoring both years with 26 goals and 4 assists. She was one of the top goal scorers in the NWAC as a freshman. Morgan was named to the NWAC North-East Region All-Star team as a Midfielder both her freshman and sophomore years. She was a leader on the team and served as team captain. Morgan is known for her competitive spirit and absolute commitment to winning.
