New Mount Vernon City Council Member Appointed

City Council has announced the appointment of Juan Morales to the Ward 1 council position that was made vacant following the health-related resignation of Councilmember Erin Moberg, in October.

Morales, who was selected from a field of 8 candidates, will be sworn into office sometime in early January.

By City ordinance, the same position will be up for election in November of 2021. Morales may choose to run for the position to retain his appointed seat.

Morales is employed within the Skagit County Superior Court system, and said that he looks forward to serving the residents of Ward 1, and all of Mount Vernon.

“I am planning on learning as much as I can about this position from the council and the mayor,” Morales said in a statement. “I hope to do well for the betterment of the City of Mount Vernon, and all of its residents.”
