Western Washington Papa John’s and the American Red Cross encourage area blood donors to roll up a sleeve
Western Washington Papa John’s and the American Red Cross have joined together to give a special thank you to blood donors. Western Washington Papa John’s is donating vouchers for free 2-topping large pizza coupons when donors come to give blood in Washington’s King, Snohomish, Pierce and Thurston counties now through May 31, 2021, while supplies last. A special thank you for a special act of kindness in making a difference in the lives of patients who need of blood.
Each year, nearly 2.6 million generous people donate blood and platelets through the Red Cross, helping to provide about 40 percent of the nation’s blood supply. Donated blood may be used to help accident victims, surgery patients, organ transplant patients, and those receiving treatment for leukemia, cancer or sickle cell disease.
- This season, the Red Cross especially needs type O blood donors. Having enough type O blood on the shelves is important for ongoing patient care and emergencies.Type O blood is the most needed blood group by hospitals but is often in short supply.
Volunteers are the only source of blood and platelets for hospital patients in need of transfusions. Western Washington Papa John’s generosity supports the safe and reliable collection and delivery of blood services to patients at approximately 2,500 hospitals and transfusion centers nationwide.
How to donate blood
Simply download the American Red Cross Blood Donor App, visit RedCrossBlood.org, call 1-800-RED CROSS (1-800-733-2767) or enable the Blood Donor Skill on any Alexa Echo device to make an appointment or for more information. Blood and platelet donors can save time at their next donation by using RapidPass® to complete their pre-donation reading and health history questionnaire online, on the day of their donation, before arriving at the blood drive. To get started, follow the instructions at RedCrossBlood.org/RapidPass or use the Blood Donor App.
