Perovskia atriplicifolia 'Russian Sage'

August's heat is here and the effect a warm summer evening has on entering into a garden is one of fluid motion and serves not only as a respite but a reflection of our personal lifestyles.
Admired for its fragrant silver foliage as much as its lavender-purple flowers, 'Russian Sage' (Perovskia atriplicifolia) makes a bold statement in a cool evening garden path at Toni and John Christianson's home garden. The abundant spiky flowers reach for passersby and continue to bloom until autumn. Another staple is 'Hidcote' Lavender (Lavandula angustifolia). Its fragrance, compact habit, and long-lasting flowers have an intoxicating scent of lavender and waft through the garden all summer long-it will even help with keeping pesky insects at bay. And for height, a blend of bicolored Sweet Peas 'Spencer'mix(Lathyrus odoratus) is an unexpected splash of color and frill. Sweet peas are another favorite scented flower for cutting and garden decoration. To keep blooms abundant and vases full, frequently snip stems with one or two open blooms to prevent seed pods from developing.

"Rest is not idleness, and to lie sometimes on the grass under trees on a summer's day, listening to the murmur of the water, or watching the clouds float across the sky, is by no means a waste of time."
- John Lubbock
August is here at last! It’s one of those months when lollygagging is fashionable and simple pleasures fill our days. We can be perfectly content to sit in the shade and soak up the quiet hum of our summer gardens, or share a casual garden-to-table dinner under the stars with a few dear friends.
Here at Primrose, our doors are all open and there’s a breezy, summery vibe in the shop. It’s cool, cheerful, and well-stocked with summer living in mind. We are over the moon about all the delicious goodies we’re carrying from Girl Meets Dirt,a fabulous company from Orcas Island. We especially love their award-winning shrubs made from heirloom fruits and organic ingredients. In flavors like Island Plum, Island Pear, Peach, and Lemon Lavender, these non-alcoholic syrups are perfect for specialty cocktails and mocktails, or you can simply add them to seltzer water for a refreshing summer beverage. Summer in a glass!
We also love our indoor/outdoor, weather-resistant hanging lanterns from Allsop Home & Garden, an innovative family business from Bellingham. These lanterns are made from Tyvek material that has been laser-cut to create beautiful lacey shades. We carry both solar and plug-in styles in various shapes and sizes. Such an easy way to add instant elegance to outdoor living spaces and, once summer is over, the plug-in style lanterns would add lovely ambiance inside our homes.
Imagine sipping lemon-lavender cocktails with friends out on the patio, under the glow of summer lanterns. So simple, so dreamy, so perfectly August!
