Blood Supply Forecast Report – March 21, 2022
The local blood supply is dropping to critical low levels as most regional hospitals resume surgeries that were delayed due to the pandemic. The resumption of these surgeries is increasing the demand on the local blood supply – in addition to cancer, trauma, transplant, and emergency surgery patients Bloodworks Northwest always supports. According to Bloodworks Northwest’s donor watch, there are many opportunities to book appointments in the next two weeks, especially in Federal Way, Tukwila, Silverdale, Olympia, Vancouver, and Eugene. There’s a high need for donors to book appointments now for the week of April 17 and beyond. Emergency need for Type O — the blood type most frequently transfused in emergency situations — is at a 24 hour supply. Appointments to donate blood can be booked at bloodworksnw.org or 800-398-7888.
