Skagit Valley Tulip Festival

April 1st - 30th

In Skagit Valley, we have 350 acres of tulips between Tulip Town and RoozenGaarde which create the wonderful tulip festival experience we have enjoyed for thirty-nine seasons. The Skagit Valley Tulip Festival is a destination event for the Pacific Northwest, held from April 1 - 30, celebrating acres and acres of tulips bursting into bloom. The fields of tulips are scattered throughout the Skagit Valley as are the many events and activities that comprise the festival. The tulip fields are the crops of RoozenGaarde/Washington Bulb Co., Inc. and Tulip Town. Due to crop rotation, the tulip fields are in different locations each year.

For up-to-date details, field map, ticketing information, schedule of events, and more, visit the Skagit Valley Tulip Festival website at www.tulipfestival.org.

From April 1 to May 1, we are delighted to have “Art in the Schoolhouse” every day here at Christianson’s! The Stanwood-Camano Arts Guild artists have been producing beautiful works of art the past couple of years and are incredibly excited to share their creations with you this spring.

After visiting the Nursery and shopping from artists, bring your own picnic or enjoy authentic woodfired Napoletana style thin-crust pizza provided by Arbia Mobile Woodfired Pizza in the Schoolhouse Rose Garden.

What are some of your favorite springtime memories? Baby chicks and chocolate bunnies? Cheerful little seedlings popping up in egg cartons? The sweet fragrance of hyacinth and fresh-cut grass? The arrival of spring brings signs of hope and little miracles everywhere. There’s always something new to behold; always something unfolding, growing, and springing back to life.

To celebrate the arrival of spring, Primrose is filled with a kaleidoscope of colors, with whimsical surprises and new additions greeting you at every turn. In fact, a trip around Primrose feels a bit like an Easter egg hunt. It’s best to go slow, look high and low, and expect the unexpected!

Here are just a few of the many new things we are excited to be carrying in the shop this April:

·    Women’s blouses and dresses in beautiful colors and comfy styles, many with lovely touches of embroidery

·    Spring hats, jewelry, and colorful purses and crossbody clutches

·    A growing selection of baby and kid items, including vintage toys, adorable onesies, children’s books, stuffed animals, children's gardening books, nature-themed games, and seed-starting kits

·    Easter treasures galore, including extra-special vintage decorations, greeting cards, and Easter basket stuffers, such as wind-up chicks, chocolate eggs and bunnies, jelly beans, and delicious sugar cookies with beautiful buttercream frosting from local cookie-maker, Ally Girl.

·    Everything tulip! We have Skagit Valley Tulip Festival cards, posters, hats, and stickers, as well as bunches of real-touch tulip bouquets, note cards, kitchen tea towels, and chocolate-covered Oreos and chocolate tulip lollipops from local chocolatier, Beach Castle Sweets.

Cheers to the arrival of spring, to Easter, and to fields of tulips!

It's a wonderful time to be in Skagit Valley and we hope you'll pop into Primrose next time you're out and about this April!

Is My Plant Alive?

Patience is key after the winter we experienced!

One of the most common questions we are getting this spring is "did my plant die in the cold snap?" While many plants look forlorn, brown, and without any glimpse of life, they most likely are alive. Most plants took a beating this winter (we reached 9 degrees in the Nursery!) but will push new growth from the crown as late as May or June. While stems and branches may have been harmed, come late spring you will begin to see signs of life. It does require a bit of patience, but it is well worth the wait!

Mark your calendars!

Skagit Valley Farmer's Market returns May 29th!

The Skagit Valley Farmers Market

May 29th - October 2nd

Sundays, 10 a.m. - 2 p.m.

We are so excited to gather around the Vinery once again for summer markets after a wonderful first season in 2021. This market season you can expect a diverse array of Skagit-farmed produce, local baked goods, handmade jewelry and crafts, and beautiful bouquets created by local florists. Last year, it seemed everyone left the market with something they loved, and we hope to offer an even more exciting selection this year.

If you haven’t visited, the Vinery once operated as a stationary pea vining site from the 1940s to the 1960s, inviting the name “The Vinery”. The original structure was extensively renovated over the past few years and now functions as a beautiful space for special event rentals, markets, community gatherings, and garden club meetings.

If you are interested in becoming a vendor with us, please email our Market Manager Kathryn Shiohira at skagtivalleyfarmersmarket@gmail.com to receive our vendor application.

A Friendly Reminder

We are now charging 8 cents per bag following our new state guidelines. Please remember to bring a reusable shopping bag with you. This charge also pertains to plastic trash bags during the bare root season. Let's find inventive and sustainable ways to reuse plastic and other materials to make this transition a bit easier!
