Mount Vernon Library Commons announces $50,000 donation from NextEra Energy Resources for STEM education
The Mount Vernon Library Commons (MVLC) is proud to announce a generous $50,000 donation from NextEra Energy Resources, LLC, in support of its mission to provide cutting-edge STEM education to the residents of Skagit Valley. This donation will enable the MVLC to continue offering high-quality, free, educational programs that empower the community's youth and foster a passion for science, technology, engineering, and mathematics.
Suzanne Butler, foundation director of MVLC, expressed her excitement about NextEra Energy Resources’ commitment, stating “Investing in the long-term success of a community isn’t something many companies are willing to do. After multiple attempts to find a sponsor for our STEM space, we started discussions with NextEra Energy Resources, and it quickly became clear that our goals are closely aligned. NextEra Energy Resources’ investment means our kids will have access to innovative STEM programs for years to come.”
The funding provided by NextEra Energy Resources, the world’s largest generator of renewable energy from the wind and sun, and a world leader in battery energy storage will directly enhance the MVLC's ability to deliver a wide range of innovative and accessible educational opportunities. These programs are instrumental in equipping young minds with the skills and knowledge necessary to navigate and excel in an increasingly technology-driven world.
“We are committed to investing in the economic growth, success, and future of residents in communities where we develop our renewable energy projects,” said Chibuijem Ajulu, senior project manager on the Mount Vernon battery storage project at NextEra Energy Resources. “We’re excited about the benefits this grant will ultimately provide to students looking to explore a career in STEM.”
The Mount Vernon Library Commons appreciates the ongoing support from community allies and looks forward to continuing its mission of providing valuable educational resources. The collaboration with NextEra Energy Resources marks a pivotal step in expanding the reach and efficacy of its STEM programs.
